Generally, in the case of economic offences, bank accounts of the accused remain frozen till the trial is over. However, the ToI reports that Justice Kumbhakoni of the Bombay High Court decided to de-freeze the account of one Shaukatali Khan accused of cheating since:
- the chargesheet having been filed, investigations were over
- there was no fresh offence which he had been accused of
- since the trial would go on for a long time, the funds would remain inaccessible if the account continued to be frozen.
